There are two main ways to farm currency for a new player.
First, you can get a character to a level 60 zone, and turn in full sets of un-id'd gear to the vendor. This is the basic "chaos recipe." If you don't know about recipes, spend your next hour reading the wiki.
Second, you can kill higher level act bosses for loot. Turn this loot into alteration shards through the vendor, and covert them up to fusings. Go to the end of act 1 and farm Merveil at whatever your highest difficulty reached is. An hour of this will fill up several stash tabs of gear.
Eventually you will want to learn how to trade with other players if you really want to make money. Streamers like hegemony have good YouTube guides to help you understand.
